FREE FLU SHOTS FOR SENIORS, HEALTH EDUCATION AND FAMILY FUN WILL HIGHLIGHT ALAMEDA HOSPITAL’S ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR ON OCTOBER 18
ALAMEDA, Calif., October 2008 — The Alameda Hospital Community Health Fair 2008 on October 18 will feature a wide range of health-related activities for all ages. The Fair takes place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the hospital, located at 2070 Clinton Avenue in Alameda.
The community is invited to receive free health screenings and flu shots (while supplies last) at the Fair, and Alameda health professionals will answer questions about health and wellness issues. You and your family can learn from interactive and informational exhibits how to better care for your body at work and at play.
“One of our goals for this year’s Health Fair is to provide our community with an opportunity to learn how to enhance your health and well-being,” says Executive Director of Nursing, Mary Bond. “Our free flu shot program, co-sponsored by the Alameda County Public Health Department, is an important aspect of helping keep the community healthy this winter. Due to a limited supply of vaccine, preference will be given to those 60 and over, or with chronic medical conditions.”
Fair booths and exhibits will present information about skin care, cancer prevention, diabetes education, heart disease, allergy care and injury prevention. Alameda Police and Fire Departments, as well as the American Red Cross will provide vital community safety information. Low cost emergency preparedness kits will also be available. Free health screenings at the Fair will include diabetes, blood pressure, quick-look EKGs, body composition analysis, podiatry, and assessing risk for heart disease. Total-cholesterol screening costs $7 and osteoporosis screening costs $10. Many Alameda service organizations participate each year and provide valuable information about programs and services available to our community.
Fair highlights for children include KidSafe photo IDs, free bike helmets for children 12 years and younger, while supplies last (child must be present), bike safety information, emergency vehicles from the Alameda Police and Fire departments, face painting, and healthy nutrition.
